It is impossible to overestimate what the World Cup means to Brazil, a
country that allegedly has never forgotten the shocking defeat in the
first (and only) tournament they hosted (1950).
See:
Everyone who isn't Croatian breathed a collective sigh of relief when Brazil overcame an early own-goal to defeat Croatia 3-1.
Neymar carrommed the equalizer off the far post in the first half (29') and scored the eventual game-winner (71') on a PK despite the Croatian keeper getting a good piece of it.
Oscar eliminated any doubt in stoppage time with a nice toe-poke for the 3-1 victory.
Let's hope that all the social and political turmoil leading up to the games resolves itself peacefully.
Yours in Soccer,
Bruce
