Recife - Tues June 17

And so it begins...

After months (years) of preparation, the day is finally here.

Note to fellow travelers...no, an 8-ounce bottle of sunscreen is not TSA-compliant. The agent suggested we slather it on at 8 pm in the evening, 24 hours before arriving at our destination. Am I really that pale?

Note to additional fellow travels - 96 ounces of H2O is about 90 ounces over the TSA limit.

Note to passengers behind us - Lo siento. The lowest of sientos.

Should have flown out of Miami Beach B.O.A.C, which offers direct flights to Recife.

Instead, connected through Sao Paolo (GRU) on the red eye from lovely EWR.

Met some nice Columbian fans at the airport. I don't have the stomach, nor the wallet, to follow a team to multiple cities. I'm happy to park it in one place and see a variety of teams as they come through.

Flight was long and leg-cramping but otherwise uneventful.

Baby in row 35 slept through the entire flight.

Highlight for me was watching the Grand Budapest Hotel (Wes Anderson). Ralph Fiennes deserved an Oscar nod for a stellar performance.

Scratch that, highlight was two free bottles of wine...
